Sol Caribe Beach

I have been visiting this hotel for 3 years now. It's a great small clean hotel. Food is ok, staff is kind and quick to help. We absolutely love the reservations manager Yenisey Amador, she does not ever disappoint. She is very kind and friendly and will go out of her way to make sure you are happy. The rest of the staff is also great. We also love the kids club and enjoy spending our time drinking coffee while we watch others having a great time at the pool. The beach is a hop skip and a jump away. There's really not much to complain about. :)

My safe in the room had low battery. I had to call 6 times to get it open. The first time, the technician said that the batteries were low. He just reversed them. The next day again and it was like that for 6 days in a row. They finally put new batteries on the day before leaving. On some of the occasion I had to wait in my room 3-4 hours to get it open. The receptionist was at time rude….. This resulted in ruining my plans for the days. As an exemple, We planned to go swim at the dolphins park, we missed it. My money was locked in the safe. I even missed breakfast twice. The food was not at par for an hotel that qualified themself has luxury. The restaurant a la carte food was horrible and very little choice at the snack bar, like overcooked pasta with plain tomato sauce. I thought Mélia hotel was luxury. I don’t think so. Never again. Book Iberostar, it’s much better. They ruined my holiday. I was very mad and they didn’t even apologize.

We decided to stay here on the advise of our tour operator and were glad that we did so. The service was friendly, room was quite large and clean, as was the washroom. The room had good views of the waterfront. The pools were quite large and nice but the best feature would be the beach front, the water and sand was just amazing. There were several restaurants but they were all fully booked, so I would advise to book in advance of your stay if you want to try different cuisine. We managed to get a table at the Salt and Pepper restaurant on the first day we were there, it was also fully booked, but the staff managed to squeeze us in since we were quite early. The restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It had a limited menu but the food was quite good. The main buffet restaurant had a decent spread but the food was quite disappointing. I would say the same for the drinks served at the bar, really not the same as the ones we tried in Havana. The hotel policy around their pool towels was quite strange, they really need to allow guests to drop off the towels at the concierge or leave them at the room. There were several fun activities for children and that would makes it a good choice for families. All in all, good value for money, more for the beach, less for the food!!
